 NORMALIZED ENTROPY

Entropy of a time-series divided by a measure of the time-series energy.

It has been shown that for some open systems the entropy does not only dependent on the structure of the system which generates the time-series, but also on the system energy. If the mean energy of the mechanisms generating the HRV signal differs among subjects, a direct comparison of the Shannon entropy may be difficult to interpret. For this reason, it has been suggested to normalize the Shannon entropy H of a time-series by its power P. This quantity is called  normalized entropy NH:

NH=H/P
