Least square approximation of time series using a cosine function of known period.
The following function is approximated to experimental data:

where Mesor (acronym for midline estimating statistic of rhythm)
is the mean of the oscillation, A the amplitude, P the prefixed period
and Acrophase the timing of the cosine maximum. In the analysis
of circadian rhythms, P=24 hours.
