GLOSSARY OF TERMS USED IN TIME SERIES ANALYSIS
OF CARDIOVASCULAR DATA

ATTRACTOR

Object to which the time series in a phase space is attracted to.

A strange attractor has a fractal geometry which may suggest that the time series stems from a chaotic dynamic system. Displays of heart rate return maps  show structures suggestive of a strange attractor (Guzzetti et al., 1996).
